Tick. Tick. Boom.

I fear the future sometimes.  I fear what I see happening.  I fear it is getting worse.  Our country is bankrupt because of greed.  Crime is on the rise.  Millions of people out of work, loosing their homes, their vehicles, their pension… their identity.  They are scared… but mostly they are angry.  It is not their fear that scares me… rather their anger… and where they end up directing it.  Because, in truth, while we hope for change with President Obama… it is slow in comming… as change usually is.  We are called to be patient, to wait out this storm with confidence.  It is a lot to ask of a microvable generation.  We found our confidence in our homes, our jobs, our “stuff”… and for those who have lost those things, they have also lost their confidence.  With a loss of confidence comes more fear and a full on identity crisis.

This powder keg is building and no one is stopping it… I believe because no one can.  Sometimes history makes itself.

What would it take for this powder keg to go off?  Another natural disaster like Katrina, another war, another major catastrophic event of some kind?  No.  Although I think it would add to it, building to the straw that broke the camels back… so to speak.  I think it would take something so simple as the red sox loosing, or a school closing due to budget cut backs.

Tick. Tick. Boom.

I’ve never been one to put much stock into doomsday heresay… but if you look around you… the facts are undeniable.  I just hope that in the midst of our “identity crisis” we actually find out who we are… before the damage is done.
